Recording Sound for the CREATE Lab Visual Programmer
Creating a Sound File
The first step is to record your sound file. You can use a program called Audacity, which can be downloaded here. Start by installing and opening this program. When Audacity opens, you will see the window below. To record your sound file, press the Record button. To stop recording, press the Stop button. You can check your recording using the Play button.
When you are happy with your sound file, click File and then Export Audio.
Give your file a name and save it to the desktop of the computer. Make sure that WAV format is selected, then click Save. An Edit Metadata window will appear. It is fine to click OK in this window without changing anything. After you are sure your sound file is saved, close Audacity.
Using a Sound File in the Visual Programmer
Open the CREATE Lab Visual Programmer. At the bottom of the screen, select the box labelled Audio. Then select Clip. The window should look like the one below.
Click on the Add New Clip button. The Import Audio Clips window will appear. Drag your sound file from the desktop into the box labelled Drag Files Here. Then click OK.
Next, click on the pop-up menu to the left of Add New Clip. Your sound file now appears in this menu! Select it. Next, be sure to save the expression that will play your sound file.
In your project, you may want the sound file to play while other things are happening in your scene. To do this, select a wait of 0 seconds for the sound expression. This will cause the sound file to begin playing. Then the program will move immediately to the next expression while the sound file continues to play.
